Tissue Repair & Regeneration
Snap-8
Acetyl octapeptide-3, sold as SNAP-8, is an eight-residue copy of the SNAP-25 sequence, proposed to compete with it in the SNARE complex and so soften expression lines. Every human study on file tested it inside a multi-ingredient formulation, so no result here separates the peptide from what it was mixed with, and the mechanism rests on work done with other SNARE-motif peptides rather than this one.

Mechanism
SNAP-25 is one of three proteins that assemble into the SNARE complex driving vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release at the neuromuscular junction. Acetyl octapeptide-3 reproduces a short stretch of the SNAP-25 N-terminal region, and the proposed action is competitive interference with SNARE assembly, reducing acetylcholine release and so the contraction that creates expression lines. Peptides copied from other SNARE motifs have inhibited complex formation and exocytosis in cell work; no published experiment demonstrates that action for this sequence specifically.
Reported effects
What sources associate with this compound. Reported categories, not outcomes we have graded — each would need its own citation and rung.
- Claimed reduction in the appearance of expression lines (topical, cosmetic claim)
Dosing on file unverified
No dose on file. It is a topical cosmetic ingredient, supplied as a dilute aqueous solution and used at a formulation percentage set by the manufacturer; no primary source states that percentage and no systemic dose exists.
Carried from a source that labels it unverified, and reproduced with that label attached. A record of what is reported, not a recommendation. No citation on this page establishes it.
Half-life, storage & sport
- Elimination half-life
- not on file — No pharmacokinetic study on file. Skin permeation has not been measured for this peptide in any published work found; the question of whether an eight-residue charged peptide crosses the stratum corneum at all is open, which is why the human studies delivered it by microneedle.
- Storage
- not on file — no stability record on file — cosmetic-ingredient supplier data only.
- In sport (WADA 2026)
- not recorded as a yes or no — not named; S0 catch-all if used systemically at all times if S0 applies the list Acetyl octapeptide-3, a cosmetic ingredient. Not named on the list. USADA's cosmetics guidance names several cosmetic peptides as not prohibited but does not name SNAP-8; topical route is not itself an exemption.
Reported adverse effects
No safety study of acetyl octapeptide-3 on its own is on file.
No skin reactions reported in a 12-week study of a microneedle patch containing this peptide among four other actives.

What is circulated not evidence 3
Claims passed around in community guides and vendor copy, recorded because they circulate — not because they are true. Each is shown with the page it was read from and what this record actually holds. Checked 2026-08-24.

A wrinkle-depth reduction of up to 63% after 28 days of a 10% solution is circulated in retail copy, sourced to the supplier Lipotec's own 17-person, uncontrolled in-house test.
63.18% Maximum reduction in wrinkle depth after 28 days of twice-daily application of 10% SNAP-8 solution
On the record The corpus record states that every peer-reviewed human study naming this peptide tested it inside a multi-ingredient product, so no published result isolates what it does on its own — and its gaps row records isolated_efficacy as absent. A maximum-individual-response figure from an uncontrolled supplier test, restated as a headline result, is exactly the qualification-stripping chain: it starts at Lipotec's brochure and ends as a retail before-and-after claim.
-
SNAP-8 is circulated as "topical Botox" — the most effective topical option for expression lines.
It's called 'topical Botox' for a reason
On the record The corpus mechanism row records the proposed SNARE-interference action but states plainly that no published experiment demonstrates that action for this sequence specifically. The mechanism the nickname rests on has never been shown for this peptide.
-
Some peptide-community pages now discuss injecting SNAP-8, a route no study of any kind supports.
Why Not to Inject It
On the record The corpus holds SNAP-8 as a topical cosmetic ingredient with no reconstitution row and no dosing row; no injectable use of any kind is on file. That vendors sell it as a lyophilised research vial at all is a community artefact.

Caveat on these identifiers
Cosmetic ingredients are not approved by the FDA before sale in the United States, so the absence of an approval is the ordinary state for this class and says nothing about the evidence.
Notes unverified prose
Cosmetic ingredient, not a drug. Merged into the existing index-only entry rather than added, since the slug already exists. Category moved from the one-member "Skin & Hair" to Tissue Repair & Regeneration, where every other topical cosmetic peptide in the corpus already sits (acetyl tetrapeptide-9 and -11, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7).
Not on file 8
All 8 tracked fields hold a value on this record. 8 further absences are named below. A blank field is a bug; a named absence is a finding.
- half-lifeno pharmacokinetic study in any species on file
- isolated efficacyno published study tested acetyl octapeptide-3 as the only active; both human studies on file used multi-ingredient products
- mechanism evidenceno in vitro or cell experiment on this sequence found; the SNARE-interference account rests on peptides copied from other SNARE motifs
- skin permeationno permeation or penetration measurement for this peptide on file
- dosingno primary source states a use concentration; supplier figures are not on file as primary
- side effectsno dedicated safety assessment of this peptide found; the tolerability figures on file belong to combination products
- reconstitutiona topical cosmetic ingredient supplied in solution, so the vial-and-diluent model does not apply
- wada statusnot named on the 2026 Prohibited List; whether the S0 catch-all reaches it was not resolved from a WADA source
Each field links to every other record missing the same thing. The full ledger holds 774 gaps across 164 records.
