Urocortin
Urocortin was described in 1995 and named for its resemblance to urotensin I, a peptide first found in fish, making it a stress-axis signal conserved across a great deal of evolutionary distance. It belongs to the same family as CRH (corticotropin-releasing hormone), but the interest in it is cardiovascular: urocortins 2 and 3 are selective for the CRF2 receptor, and infusing urocortin 2 into people with acute decompensated heart failure raised cardiac output by 2.1 litres a minute over four hours while dropping systolic pressure by 16 mmHg. That trial, UNICORN, enrolled 53 patients and measured haemodynamics rather than outcomes, and nothing on file followed symptoms past 24 hours. Urocortin has never been approved for anything.

Mechanism
Urocortins 2 and 3 are selective CRF2 receptor agonists; urocortin 1 also engages CRF1, driving vasodilation and cardiac output changes.
