GnRH (Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone)

GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is a ten-amino-acid signal the hypothalamus releases in pulses, and those pulses start the entire reproductive cascade, pituitary first, then the testes or ovaries. Its most exploited property is a paradox: pulses switch the system on, but continuous exposure desensitises the receptor and switches it off. That one fact is why the same molecular family can be pumped in bursts to induce ovulation and, given constantly as leuprolide, shuts down testosterone in prostate cancer. GnRH itself is used diagnostically and by pulsatile pump rather than as an everyday medicine; most human evidence on file for the hormone is observational, and the analogues built from it carry the randomised trials.

Mechanism
Pulsatile binding to pituitary GnRH receptors triggers LH and FSH release; continuous exposure desensitises the receptor.
Reported effects
What sources associate with this compound. Reported categories, not outcomes we have graded — each would need its own citation and rung.

Dosing on file unverified
100 mcg IV/SC single dose (diagnostic); 5 mcg q90min (range 1-20 mcg) by pulsatile pump × 21 days
Carried from a source that labels it unverified, and reproduced with that label attached. A record of what is reported, not a recommendation. No citation on this page establishes it.
