Galantide

Galantide is a chimera: one end a fragment of the brain peptide galanin, the other a fragment of substance P, two unrelated signals spliced into a single molecule. It binds galanin receptors tightly without switching them on, which makes it a subtraction tool — block galanin, then see what stops working. That is how it has been used, including a 1994 experiment in which it stimulated sexual behaviour in male rats. Sixteen papers mention it, none since 2020, and it has never been given to a person; the corpus records no route of administration for it because none has been established.

Mechanism
